The 2023 Rol Valentin is bright, fresh and effusive. Soaring floral notes and bright acids meld into a core of blue/purplish fruit. Medium in body and finely cut, the 2023 delivers the goods. Vibrant saline note extend the finish. Rol Valentin is a blend of parcels in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse and Saint-Émilion proper, specifically in the Corbin sector. This is a fine vintage for Rol Valentin. Tasted three times.

Spicy black cherries, ripe tobacco, and floral notes all emerge from the 2023 Château Rol Valentin, a pure, medium-bodied, elegant 2023 that has nicely integrated oak, polished tannins, and outstanding length. Based on 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, I love its overall balance and texture. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. (05/2024)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Rol Valentin waltzes out with showy notes of kirsch, black raspberries, and stewed strawberries followed by hints of rosebud tea, dusty soil, and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is delicately played and refreshing, with soft tannins and a lifted finish. The blend is 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec. (05/2024)

89-91 POINTS
The 2023 Rol Valentin evokes aromas of loamy soils, violet, flowers, spices and lilac. Medium-bodied, structured and concentrated, it’s rich and extracted with a tannic frame and a dense, powerful finish. This blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec will be matured for 16 months using a mix of primarily used barrels, 30% new oak, 5% foudres of 12 hectoliters each and 5% in amphorae.
