The 2023 Fonréaud is just a bit pinched on the nose, but it seems to open up with aeration. That said, it never quite clicks out of second gear. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and more fruit concentration than the aromatics suggest. It coheres nicely with a dash of black pepper and allspice on the finish. If the aromatics can get their act together, this could be a decent Listrac. Indeed, a second bottle tasted three weeks later does show a little more panache.

This is firm and structured with slightly rough and chewy edges to it, yet it has lively and juicy fruit in the center-palate. Medium body. Shows freshness and good fruit concentration.  (04/2023)

Spicy red and black cherries, dried herbs, and floral notes emerge from the 2023 Château Fonréaud, a medium-bodied, focused, firmer, yet nicely concentrated Listrac. It plays in the fresher, focused style of the vintage and has a firmer edge. (05/2024)

The 2023 Fonreaud has a deep garnet-purple color. Notes of dried herbs, new leather, and unsmoked cigars lead on the nose, giving way to an undercurrent of dried cranberries and raisin cake. The medium-bodied palate offers dried berry flavors with chewy tannins, finishing rustic. (05/2024)

An attractive wine, the 2023 Fonréaud bursts from the glass with aromas of dark wild berries, spices, coniferous forest, licorice and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, lively and elegant, it has bright acids, a fleshy core of fruit and a delicate, penetrating and long finish. This blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot is a real success this year.
