THE MOST EXCITING WINES OF THE YEAR

No. 1 / 100
2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto -
Vina Don Melchor
Wine Spectator: 96 Punkte
A remarkable effort that channels the finesse of the vintage with rich, muscular edges, offering a base of graphite and cassis notes that gather around elegant layers of dried rosemary and white pepper. The richly textured core of raspberry and plum flavors show precision and just enough acidity to keep things sailing onto the finish around well-integrated tannins and touches of cocoa. Best from 2026 through 2040. 5,000 cases imported.

Beaulieu Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Wine Spectator: 95 Punkte
This is packed with dark, winey flavors of black currant and blackberry paste underscored with alder, sweet tobacco, warm paving stone and black licorice notes, while a violet accent fills the background. The polished finish makes this accessible now, but there’s plenty of life ahead. Drink now through 2042.

No. 3 / 100
2021 Tignanello - Antinori
Wine Spectator: 97 Punkte
Laced with pure cherry, strawberry, graphite and tobacco aromas and flavors, this red is beautifully supported by a backbone of vibrant acidity and taut, refined tannins. Everything is framed by vanilla and toasty oak in the best sense, revealing harmony, with a long, orange-tinged finish and, yes, even drinkability at this stage. Best to give this a few more years in the bottle. Best from 2027 through 2045. 11,083 cases imported.

Region: Tuscany, Italy Issue Date: Oct. 31, 2024
No. 4 / 100
2021 Cabernet Sauvignon - Faust
Wine Spectator: 94 Punkte
Packed and broad in feel, with a ganache note draped over black currant, blackberry and steeped cherry. Licorice root and alder smoke flavors check in on the finish as the fruit pumps through, ending with a flash of violet. Hard to resist now, but this has some development ahead. Drink now through 2036.

Wine Spectator: 94 Punkte
Super lush and polished in feel, with creamy-textured açaí, mulberry and cassis notes gliding through slowly. Laced with alluring hints of violet, iris and anise, this offers a melted licorice note on the finish, but the fruit wins out easily. Drink now through 2037.

2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau - Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe
Wine Spectator: 94 Punkte
This shows a lot of aromatic appeal, with dusty earth and singed incense notes covering a well of fresh cherry and red currant flavors. A gutsy, grippy style on the palate, with a cast-iron spine bringing firm shape and underlying power. Slightly old-school, this still needs time to unfurl. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Best from 2025 through 2035. 2,500 cases imported.
- Kristen Bieler
Region: Southern Rhône, France Issue Date: March 31, 2024

Eastside Road Neighbors
Wine Spectator: 95 Punkte
This red is packed, featuring juicy and delicious mulberry, blackberry and cherry pâte de fruit notes that ripple with energy, while rose hip, rooibos tea and licorice snap accents fuel the finish. Shows a gloss of toast for added effect, as the fruit easily keeps the upper hand throughout. Drink now through 2034.
