The NV Brut Reserve is a tasty, non-vintage Champagne. Orchard fruit, lime, white flowers and white pepper. Silky, creamy and exceptionally polished, the Brut Reserve is a total charmer. All the elements are so well balanced. This release is based on 2019. Dosage is 6.10 grams per liter. Disgorged: 4th quarter 2022.

Plenty of pinot character with strawberry and dried apple and some flint and matchstick, as well as stone. It’s medium- to full-bodied with freshness, a creamy texture and a long, delicious finish. 40% pinot meunier, 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. 28% 2019 and the rest reserve wine going back to 2006. The most recent release of the NV Champagne Brut is based on the 2019 vintage and takes this cuvée to new heights, bringing down the dosage to 3 grams per liter dosage, while simultaneously significantly increasing the amount of reserve wine which comprises 62% of the blend, with 8% barrel aging. It retains the classic varietal blend of 40% Meunier and 30% each Pinot and Chardonnay. In the glass, it’s very precise while also retaining a lot of the immediate appeal this cuvée has always achieved, but it now has markedly improved in overall quality. On opening, it’s floral and expressive, with a touch of fresh tropical fruit of mango, cherry blossom, and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with juicy fruit upfront, it takes on the most focus and soars across the finish with crunchy salinity. I love the direction they have taken with this wine, which is more focused and linear. Drink 2024-2036. Origin number 191193; Disgorged 3rd quarter of 2022. (11/2023)

Light burnished gold with a fine, evanescent bead and finished with a three gram per liter dosage, the Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve NV is a 40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay blend based on the 2019 vintage with a dominant 62% of reserve wines, the oldest of which is from 2006. From this deep bench of vinous blending emerge perfumed aromas of poached pear, persimmon, dried iris blooms, and a whiff of toast comingling with smoky and bready autolytic notes. Medium-bodied and round, the palate has a vinous texture with ample ripe fruit sweetness, vivacious acidity to balance and grace notes of fresh lemon to add brightness to the finish. Disgorged in the third quarter of 2022.
