The 2016 Rieussec has plenty of botrytis on the nose, along with scents of honey, white peach, saffron, lanolin and walnut that gain intensity with aeration. The very well balanced palate presents a viscous opening and a fine bead of acidity. Generous and poised, with hints of marzipan and Turkish Delight decorating the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. - Neal Martin (2020)

2019 Les Champs Libres: 93 Punkte

The 2019 Les Champs Libres conveys composure on the nose, touches of pear, Granny Smith and menthol, fine cohesion, quite flattering at this early stage. The palate is well-balanced with a touch of reduction on the entry, fine acidity, a lot of extract here with white peach and apricot towards its toasty, sesame-tinged finish. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. - Neal Martin (2023)

2015 Château Lassègue: 88 Punkte

Dark cherry, plum, bittersweet chocolate, menthol and cloves infuse the 2015 Lassègue. This supple, voluptuous Saint-Émilion will drink well right out of the gate. As good as the 2015 is, it would be nice to see a wine with more complexity and pedigree. Lassègue is 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, done in 70% new oak. - Antonio Galloni (2017)

2021 Château Pontet-Canet: 92 Punkte

The 2021 Pontet-Canet is a soft, open-knit, attractive wine, but its light structure is impossible to look past. Graphite, dried herbs, menthol and licorice fill out the layers. The 2021 is a fairly accessible Pontet Canet that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Harvest took place from September 24 through October 12. Yields were 34 hectoliters per hectare. - Antonio Galloni (12/2023)

2020 Château Langoa-Barton: 93 Punkte

The 2020 Langoa Barton has quite a plush, violet-tinged bouquet, higher-toned than the Léoville Barton, though without the same unerring complexity. This just wants to go out and have fun. The palate has an irresistible rondeur, velvety smooth with black plum, hints of cassis and a sweet and persistent finish. Joyful.  - Neal Martin (12/2022)

2018 Château Plince: 89+ Punkte

The 2018 Plince, which I did not tasted from barrel, has a straightforward nose of dusky, earthy red berry fruit, truffle and light cedar aromas. The palate is better than the nose, delivering well-defined, quite edgy red fruit, fine acidity and quite an elegant finish. I would give this another couple of years in bottle and maybe the nose will just muster a little more personality.

2016 Château Rieussec: 97 Punkte

So much botrytis on the nose with spice, dried mushrooms and nutmeg. Dried lemons and mangoes. Full-bodied and medium sweet with density and, at the same time, lightness. I like that it is full of botrytis on the palate at the beginning and then turns fruity and very pretty at the end with citrus and fruit. Balanced, creamy and rich. Try after 2024, but already gorgeous. (02/2019)

2019 Les Champs Libres: 95 Punkte

This is very intense and powerful with dried apple, pear and aniseed. Crushed stone, too. Full-bodied and rather chewy with phenolics and intensity. A real sense of soil and depth. Draws you down. Fantastic finish. 95% sauvignon blanc (95% Sancerre clone), and 5% semillon. Tiny production. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years. (2022)

2021 Château Pontet-Canet: 95 Punkte

This is a very pretty 2021 with a solid, beautiful mid-palate and density. Juicy fruit, slightly chewy tannins and a savory finish. Hints of graphite. Drink or hold. (07/2024)

2020 Château Langoa-Barton: 97 Punkte

This is very linear and structured, with blackcurrant, pine-needle, graphite and cedar aromas and flavors. Intense. Full-bodied, chalky and intense. Superb. Best of the trilogy. Drink after 2027. (11/2023)

2018 Château Plince: 93-94 Punkte

A wine with lovely depth of fruit and ripeness, yet always refined and integrated with ripe fruit, fresh acidity and a long and satisfying finish. Could be best ever. (04/2019)

2016 Château Rieussec: 97 Punkte

A step up over the Carmes de Rieussec, the beautiful 2016 Château Rieussec has remarkable purity and freshness while still packing beautiful depth of fruit. Honeyed peach, apricot, flower oil, and even a hint of wet stone all emerge from this full-bodied, thick, opulent effort. I love it. It has a rounded, sexy style ideal for drinking any time over the coming 15-20 years. The 2016 is a final blend of 83% Sémillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle. (2019)

2019 Les Champs Libres: 94 Punkte

From the Guinaudeau family of Château Lafleur in Pomerol, the 2019 Guinaudeau Vignerons Les Champs Libres Blanc is all Sauvignon raised in new barrels. It's another remarkable white from this team that brings richness and depth as well as freshness, balance, and elegance. Caramelized grapefruits, orange blossom, chalky mineral, and white flowers, as well as hints of green almond, all emerge from this beauty and it's medium-bodied, has good concentration, and racy acidity. It's going to benefit from a year or three of bottle age and evolve gracefully for over a decade. (2022)

2021 Château Pontet-Canet: 93 Punkte

Ripe blue fruits, spring flowers, violets, tobacco, and some graphite notes all emerge from the 2021 Château Pontet-Canet, a richer, medium to full-bodied Pauillac that has polished, building tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. It picks up more classic Pauillac lead pencil notes with time in the glass (I was able to taste this on multiple occasions) and is a fleshy, beautifully textured 2021 that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and evolve for two decades. The 2021 is based on 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot that was raised 50% in new oak barrels, 35% amphora, and the balance in once-used oak. (04/2024)

2020 Château Langoa-Barton: 95 Punkte

Tasted on multiple occasions, the 2020 Château Langoa Barton comes from a mix of different sites in Saint-Julien, which makes it a great representation of the vintage and appellation. The blend is 53.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. It exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue to go with a beautiful bouquet of red and black cherries, currants, leafy tobacco, and cedar pencil, with a touch of damp earth that emerges with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has plenty of mid-palate depth and richness, velvety tannins, and a great finish. This plush, up-front, expansive, wonderfully textured Saint-Julien will benefit from just a few years of bottle age and cruise for two decades. It's the finest example from this château I've tasted. Bravo! (03/2023)

2018 Château Plince: 90-92 Punkte

Spicy oak, crème de cassis, and graphite notes all emerge from the 2018 Château Plince, a medium-bodied, elegant, nicely textured Pomerol that has fine tannins and considerable charm. It should drink well for 10-12 years. The blend is 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, all from a 21-acre parcel of darker, compact, iron-laced soils. (05/2019)

2021 Château Pontet-Canet: 94 Punkte

The 2021 Pontet-Canet is deep garnet-purple in color. It slowly unfurls to reveal expressive notes of crunchy black cherries, fresh blueberries, and black raspberries, leading to suggestions of wet slate, black olives, rose petals, and cardamon. The light to medium-bodied palate is bright and lively, with wonderfully pure black fruit and mineral-inspired flavors and a fine-grained texture, finishing with a floral lift. - (04/2024)

2020 Château Langoa-Barton: 92 Punkte

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Langoa Barton comes bounding out of the glass with eager-to-please notes of kirsch, juicy blueberries, and cassis, plus wafts of fallen leaves, underbrush, and allspice. The medium-bodied palate is plush and juicy, with open-knit black fruits and plenty of freshness, finishing with a spicy kick. It's fabulously delicious right now, but give it another couple of years to fully integrate and then drink it over the next 20 years+. - (06/2023)

2016 Château Rieussec: 93 Punkte

Quite fresh, with acacia and honeysuckle notes out front, followed by a stream of mirabelle plum, yellow apple, pineapple and white peach flavors. Offers an unctuous feel on the finish while staying on the brighter side. Among the top efforts in the vintage. Best from 2022 through 2035. 500 cases made. - J.M. (2019)

2021 Château Pontet-Canet: 92 Punkte

A nice, dark, winey offering, with steeped black cherry and black currant fruit melding nicely with warm earth, alder and cast iron accents through the focused finish. Shows grip and range, with barely any indication of the vintage's skinny side. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2038. - J.M.

2020 Château Langoa-Barton: 93 Punkte

Solidly built, with a bright violet note leading the way, followed by cassis and blackberry flavors that are vivid and defined. Shows apple wood and bramble notes that add a grippy, juicy feel to the finish, while an iron note adds cut and drive. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. - J.M. (03/2023)

2018 Château Plince: 92-95 Punkte

Warm and steeped in feel, with fig, blackberry and plum fruit notes, layered with tobacco and warm earth details. A strong showing. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. - J.M. (06/2019)

2016 Château Rieussec: 96+ Punkte

Pale lemon colored, the 2016 Rieussec comes sashaying out of the glass with a beautiful floral and citrus perfume of orange blossom, pink grapefruit, yuzu, lime leaves, lemongrass and fallen leaves with hints of nutmeg and candied ginger. Having shed a lot of the puppy fat from when I last tasted this from barrel, the palate reveals loads of elegant, tightly wound layers and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (2019)

2019 Les Champs Libres: 95 Punkte

The Les Champs Libres 2019 Blanc wafts from the glass with notes of lime blossom, citrus zest, wet stones and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, it's chalky and concentrated, with racy acids, lovely structuring dry extract and a long, mineral finish. It's produced from Sancerrois massal selections of Sauvignon Blanc (and now a tiny percentage of Sémillon, too) planted on deep clay soils on the slopes at Grand Village, the Guinaudeau family having sagely concluded that clay is as essential to a great white wine as limestone. Like many of this family's wines, it makes a mockery of Bordeaux's traditional hierarchy. - William Kelley (2022)

2015 Château Lassègue: 93+ Punkte

Made by Pierre Seillan of Verité in Sonoma (the estate was purchased by the Jackson Family in 2003) from 50- to 60-year-old vines on clay and limestone, the 2015 Lassegue is composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with expressive black forest cake, preserved plums and blackberry pie notes with an undercurrent of mocha, grilled meats, sandalwood and cigar box plus a waft of lavender. Medium to full-bodied, rich and densely packed with opulent layers of spiced black fruit preserves and chocolate box notions, it has wonderfully plush yet firm tannins and a lovely suggestion of background acid, finishing long and fragrant. 7,500 cases were produced. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (2018)

2021 Château Pontet-Canet: 91-93 Punkte

Offering up wild, exotic aromas of blackberries, cloves and Indian spices mingled with notions of rose petal, bruised orchard fruit and cherry pit that evolve rapidly in the glass, the 2021 Pontet-Canet is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a layered mid-palate and refined tannins that assert themselves on the firm, saline finish. Always one of the Médoc's most singular, idiosyncratic wines, it will be interesting to see how it performs in bottle. - William Kelley (2022)

2020 Château Langoa-Barton: 94 Punkte

The 2020 Langoa Barton has turned out superbly in bottle, offering up generous aromas of black cherries, crème de cassis, licorice and pencil shavings deftly framed by classy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, its concentrated core of ripe but vibrant fruit is framed by sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids. Beautifully balanced, it's somewhat more open out of the gates than the excellent 2019 and will offer an especially broad drinking window. - William Kelley (04/2023)

2018 Château Plince: 91+ Punkte

Blended of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Plince offers up notions of espresso, cedar chest, menthol and tar over a core of preserved plums and baked blackberries with a waft of bouquet garni. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves and savory layers, framed by grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a minerally lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (03/2021)
