2009: The 2009 Valandraud has a ripe and opulent bouquet with precocious red fruit, fig and rose petals, a little warmth of alcohol blurring the edges and becoming more tarry with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent plush, saturated tannin. This is sleek and modern in style, heady and concentrated with a decadent finish. It conveys a sense of purity. The bottle tasted in 2017 showed a tad more precision on the finish. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

96 Punkte 2010: The 2010 Valandraud has a well-defined bouquet, the fruit slightly darker than its peers, quite mineral-driven and precise. This feels very lively and energetic. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of black fruit laced with tar and black pepper. This is a superb Right Bank with class and pedigree. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

88 Punkte 2011: The 2011 Valandraud has never been one of my favourite vintages from Jean-Luc Thunevin, and I've always had some reservations. This example has quite a volatile nose, a little acetic though it does appear to improve in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good grip with brambly red fruit, white pepper and whilst there is good substance on the finish, it just lacks some amplitude. I have had much better bottles in the past. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.
