2023 Sous le Chêne

Very firm, racy and nervy in structure, this small lot comes from grapevines growing close to a majestic old native tree high up on the domaine's steep hill, thus "under the oak." Aromas of rosemary, sage and pure black cherries, then on the palate blackcurrants, ethereal minerals and complex savory elements. It's something so different, challenging and edgy. The 2023 Pinot Noir Sous le Chêne takes the magnificence of the La Côte bottling and imbues it with another degree of silky, reserved refinement. This is hauntingly beautiful and elusive on the nose, which shows off its typically multifaceted array of herbal, citrus, spice and saline notes with enhanced fidelity and precision. The palate echoes this sophisticated effect with an exquisite, featherweight opulence that oozes class through the lacy, definitely ethereal finish. I couldn't be more excited to follow this wine through its bottling and far beyond that.
