The 2023 La Cabanne, which contains no Cabernet Franc this year and matured in 55% new oak, is well-defined on the nose: blackcurrant, raspberry, sous-bois and cherry liqueur. There is a tad of overripeness here, but I think that will be subsumed during the remaining élevage. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a keen line of acidity. It’s harmonious, with a bright, citrus-fresh, white-pepper-tinged finish that lingers—worth seeking out, as this is always good value.

All Merlot, the 2023 Château La Cabanne is rock-solid, with a beautiful red, blue, and black-fruited profile that carries classic lots of floral, menthol, and spicy nuances. It's medium-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. I love its overall purity, complexity, and freshness, and it's going to shine with just a few years of bottle age. (05/2024)

La Cabanne 2023 is 100% Merlot and has a deep garnet-purple color. It opens with a core of raisin cake and prunes, with wafts of earth, cedar, tar, and wet slate. Medium-bodied, it's a little lean and tart, with lightly chewy tannins and an abrupt finish. (05/2024)
