2022 Verso

The 2022 Verso de Haut Batailley, taken mostly from the château’s young vines, shows the natural intensity of the year in its decidedly ripe profile. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, leather, tobacco and chocolate are all amplified. This is a decidedly heady, almost exotic Verso, but it should be a crowd pleaser.

Framboise, cassis, sweet spice, and floral notes all emerge from the 2022 Château Haut-Batailley Verso, a forward, charming, velvety textured second wine that shines for its purity and balance. It's going to drink nicely right out of the gate, yet it still has solid underlying structure, and I see no reason it shouldn't evolve nicely for 15 years in cold cellars. (05/2023)

The 2022 Verso, made from 54% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. Notions of prunes, fruitcake, and spice cake waft from the glass, with hints of Chinese five spice and tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers chewy tannins and a lively backbone to support the baked berries and spicy flavors, finishing with good length. pH 3.65, TPI 88. (05/2023)
