2022 Verso

The 2022 Verso de Haut-Batailley still has a very extravagant nose with too much VA for my liking. The palate is sweet on the entry with a touch of plush black fruit. It's soft textured, with a hint of kirsch and a dab of balsamic on the finish. Drink this over the next three to four years.

An expression of sweet berries, plums and currants on the nose as well as a touch of baked fruit. A slightly sweet-sour accent has a direct impact, giving this early appeal but less finesse or complexity. Fluid, juicy and firm at the end. Medium-long finish. 54% merlot, 43% cabernet sauvignon and 3% petit verdot. Drink in 2026. (01/2025)

Very floral, the 2022 Château Haut-Batailley Verso has beautiful black raspberry and cassis-like notes as well as hints of spicy wood and violet, medium to full body, a rounded, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. (02/2025)

The 2022 Verso, made from 54% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. Notions of prunes, fruitcake, and spice cake waft from the glass, with hints of Chinese five spice and tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers chewy tannins and a lively backbone to support the baked berries and spicy flavors, finishing with good length. pH 3.65, TPI 88. (05/2023)
