2022 Untertürkheimer Gips Marienglas Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs

It’s not easy to get past the stunning nose of red fruit and red beets that has excellent spicy complexity. Then you find a wonderful harmony of concentrated red fruit and fine tannins on the very focused, medium-bodied palate. There are notes of licorice and candied citrus peel in the long, delicate finish. Drink from release.

The 2022 Spätburgunder GG Gips Marienglas has a fresh, cool and spicy nose that is rather austere and not very generous with notes of chalk and clear, elegant, forward-looking fruit. Dense and zesty, acidic but also tart, fruity and juicy, this is a silky, fresh, still restrained but elegant and straightforward Pinot from the Keuper soil in the land above the Porsche factory in Stuttgart. It has fine tannins, good concentration and is just ripe. I had to check to make sure that this was a 2022 and not a 2021. Otherwise, I would have believed it was the older vintage.
