2022 Sanford & Benedict Chardonnay

The 2022 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict is one of the more tightly wound, reticent wines in the range. It offers plenty of energy. Citrus peel, white pepper, mint and crushed rocks are all finely delineated. I admire the wine's energy, but at the same time, I feel picking a touch riper would allow more site character to show.

Its nose deftly marries rich aromas of candlewax and yellow apples with lifted accents of quince and kumquat, all bound together with a refined, floating mineral quality. The palate is silky and inviting, combining plush richness with a linear focus that is elegantly persistent through the energetic, nuanced finish. The substantial strides in Sanford's winemaking in recent years are fully displayed here.
