Reserved aromatics on the opening, an undertow of gunsmoke and slate, there is flesh here but it's contained, a promise for future years. Exceptional grip and lift, cool lemongrass set against fleshier white peach, pumice stone, fennel, oyster shell and white tea, strong personality, great contrast of textures, this climbs through the palate. August 24 harvest. Vines come partly massal selection Bordeaux, partly massal selection from Sancerre. Cool clay soils. Fast becoming an unmissable white Bordeaux, from the Guinaudeau family. Rich, ample and creamy, the 2022 Les Champs Libres is a total stunner. Lemon confit, white flowers, jasmine, mint and tangerine peel soar out of the glass. The richness of the year is evident, and yet there is no heaviness or excess at all.

This is so gorgeous already, showing white peaches and lemon blossoms with sliced-citrus character. Medium-bodied, this has attractive flamboyant fruit but a splendid energy from the backbone of acidity. This will age beautifully. Pure sauvignon blanc. Drink or hold. (01/2025)
