"Beautiful colour in the glass, so vivid and vibrant. Sleek and streamlined, a lovely cool vein of freshness and soft flinty touches with grippy tannins that give texture to the frame. On the reserved side, it’s poised and calm, not shouting but delicately delivering layers of flavour, concentrated black fruits, minerality and ever so soft spicing. Nice definition, weight and intensity, this is well crafted with licks of liquorice, clove and dark chocolate. A lovely ease to this despite being clearly powerful and full of refined intensity. 3.9pH, 85IPT. Harvest 14-26 September. A yield of 28hl/ha." - Georgina Hindle (04/2023)

"Some heat on the opening moments, softening to show a velvety texture and vivid blue and red fruits, creamy patisserie notes with fennel and black chocolate on the finish. Great quality. Hail on June 20 meant losing around 30% of the crop, leaving a yield of 28hl/h, and as a result this blend is unusually high in Merlot. Lower alcohols here than 2018, 2019 and 2010 after some blockages. Not sold En Primeur." (02/2023)

The 2022 Frank Phélan, composed of 80% Merlot due to a June hailstorm that damaged some Cabernet, presents an elegant bouquet with brambly red fruit, pencil lead and Margaux-like floral scents. The medium-bodied palate offers sapid dark berry fruit and a soft texture, making it easy-drinking with a lightly peppered, graphite-tinged finish. Fine.

The chocolate, blackberry, walnut and hazelnut character is really intense here. it's medium- to full-bodied with juicy fruit and a flavorful finish. Savory and juicy. Low alcohol for merlot in this vintage. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet sauvignon. Drink after 2028. (01/2025)

The 2022 Frank Phelan is based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up 14 months in nearly all in once-used barrels. Black cherries, red plums, smoked tobacco, and graphite all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a layered, ripe mouthfeel, and a great finish.
