The 2022 Courlat Cuvée Jean-Baptiste comes from four hectares of limestone over clay soils. This has a lovely bouquet that's certainly a level higher than the regular cuvée with more energy and delineation. Dark plum aromas mingle with dark chocolate and espresso on the nose. The palate is well balanced, with neatly integrated 30% new oak. Just a touch of graphite toward the finish shows a little attenuation. Fine.

Based on 100% Merlot, the 2022 Château Du Courlat Cuvée Jean-Baptiste is a juicy, fruit-forward wine loaded with red and black fruits, hints of baking spice, and possibly a touch of sweetness. Medium to full-bodied, round, and already beautifully layered, it has elegant tannins and a deliciously ripe, fruit-driven profile. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years. (02/2025)
