The 2022 Sansonnet is an ample, dark wine. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, incense and espresso all take shape in this decidedly potent, explosive Saint-Émilion. Readers will find a wine of unctuous density and volume. It's another striking offering from proprietor Marie Benedicte Lefevere.

A modern and dense St.-Emilion with rich, glossy fresh fruit. Plums, dark chocolate, fine spices and a hint of olives on the nose. Juicy, with some nicely tart berries and dusty tannins on the full-bodied palate. Concentrated and tight in the finish, but polished. Very well executed. Drink from 2028. (01/2025)

Winemaker Marie Lefévère made a bevy of brilliant wines in 2022, and her 2022 Château Sansonnet is up there with the finest vintages to date. A blend of 92% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a pure, well-oaked, yet balanced and textured style carrying beautiful red and black fruits as well as some floral, spicy background nuances. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, the tannins are ripe and nicely integrated, the balance is spot-on, and it has a great finish. I was able to taste this on multiple occasions and it always impressed. (05/2023)

A blend of 92% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a pH of 3.43, the 2022 Sansonnet has a deep purple-black color. Notes of plum preserves, blackberry pie, and kirsch hop from the glass, with vibrant accents of redcurrants, iron ore, and dried mint. The full-bodied palate is lively and intense, with energetic black and red berry layers and a fine-grained texture, finishing long and minerally. (05/2023)
