The 2022 Péby Faugères has a concentrated bouquet with luxurious plush red cherries, cassis and crushed violet scents. Habitually, I prefer the Faugères but this year, the Péby has the upper hand. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. The acidity is well judged with black pepper infused red fruit. There is just a little dryness on the finish, that will hopefully be addressed during its élevage. Fine.

A very fine tannined red with a linear line running through it, which drives the whole thing. Black berry, bark and walnut character. Medium to full body with a juicy finish. Light bitter lemons and oranges. Chewy, yet the tannins are well-integrated. 100% merlot. From organically grown grapes. (2023)

I loved the 2022 Château Peby Faugères, a full-bodied, concentrated, powerful Saint-Emilion coming from the cooler eastern edge of Saint-Emilion. Cassis, currants, graphite, spicy wood, and dried herbs define the bouquet, and it brings beautiful depth of fruit, building yet ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. It has a rare mix of opulence and elegance and is going to shine with just 3-5 years of bottle age. If you need your Bordeaux to be lean, anemic, and devoid of fruit, look elsewhere. (05/2023)

The 2022 Peby Faugeres, 100% Merlot, is deep garnet-purple in color. Quite muted to start off, with considerable swirling it offers glimpses of blackberries, fresh black plums, and mulberries, plus hints of charcoal, sauteed herbs, wild fungi, and damp earth. Medium-bodied, concentrated, intense, and firm, the palate is quite tight-knit and hard to read, finishing earthy. (05/2023)
