Succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, spice and mocha are all dialed up in this 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon blend from a warm, early-ripening site in the commune of Martillac. This exuberant, fleshy red is an absolute delight. Tasted two times.

The 2022 Château Lespault-Martillac is mostly Merlot but includes 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. It has beautiful purity in its ripe red and blue fruits as well as classic Graves smoked earth, tobacco, graphite, and spice aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it's nicely balanced, has quality tannins, and a great finish. At the very least, it will be an outstanding wine and could be a real superstar of a 2022. Tasted twice. (2023)
