Ripe and concentrated sun-kissed bramble fruit on the nose - heady and opulent aromatics. Richly juicy with a chewy, plush texture that is quite enjoyable. This is on the serious, fully charged spectrum - the 15.5% alcohol isn't totally noticeable but there is cleary strength and power on offer here yet it retains a stylish and finessed flavour and texture with a fresh and cool minty finish. A wine that really leans into the vintage giving confidence and a chiselled, muscular frame. A touch of tobacco, clove and liquorice appears on the end. - Georgina Hindle (01/2025)

This is a big wine in a vintage that needed no extra pushing (a full 2% higher alcohol than the 2021). Pretty much the most intense colour and texture of the vertical, with a nose you can chew through. Cloves, cinnamon, tar, grilled sandalwood. The billow of violet flowers from fully ripe Cabernet Franc is extremely welcome, and there is juiciness on the finish, alongside this muscular swagger. Great stuff, but as I said during En Primeur, I can't help but wonder how good this would be if they scaled things back a little? Fruit from the former site of Les Asteries included in here. Harvest September 14 to 28. 80% new oak for ageing, Thomas Duclos consultant, Neil Whyte winemaker. Second year in the new Norman Foster winery. (01/2025)

The 2022 Le Dôme, matured in 80% new oak, has an expressive bouquet with graphite-tinged black fruit, a hint of espresso and blueberry aromas that emerge with time, though it is not as strong on the nose as it was in barrel. The well-integrated oak becomes more elegant as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and pastille-like black fruit accompanied by a touch of allspice. It has a gentle but insistent grip on the finish and will need just two or three years in bottle. This is a classy Le Dôme from Jonathan Malthus.

A rich, concentrated and full-bodied St.-Emilion showing tons of blackberries, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, espresso and roasted spices. Dense with a deep core of black fruit and sweet spices that grow with the ultrafine, filigreed tannins. This is big but beautiful, all rendered in a plush, opulent and powerful way. Very long and potent. Lasting almost one minute. Cabernet franc dominates. Drink from 2028. (01/2025)

The 2022 Le Dôme is 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot that comes from the Mazaret and Gaste Bourse lieux-dits. It has a vivid purple hue as well as a killer perfume of ripe blue fruits, cassis, sappy flowers, and darker chocolate. This carries to a full-bodied 2022 that has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, perfect overall balance, and fine-grained tannins, and it picks up a bloody, salty, mineral-like character on the finish. Beautifully done, it needs just 4-6 years of bottle age and will see its 30th birthday in fine form. (02/2025)
