The 2022 Lafleur-Gazin was picked 5-13 September. This is a vastly improved Pomerol over the last decade. This is fragrant and slightly exotic on the nose with black fruit, liquorice and truffle scents percolating through with time. Good delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, some lovely ripe black fruit laced with espresso and minerals. It seems to gain complexity approaching its finish and contains the sapidity to beckon another sip immediately. What a lovely Pomerol.

Lots of black olive, currant and orange peel aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with firm and polished tannins, which are fine and focused. Chewy. Plenty of potential. Pure merlot. (04/2023)

Lots of ripe red, blue, and black fruits, graphite, damp earth, leather, and spicy notes define the 2022 Château Lafleur-Gazin, a 100% Merlot Pomerol coming from a mix of gravelly, clay and silky soils. It's medium-bodied, has good balance, some silky, polished tannins, and a forward, charming style. It's not one of the gems in the vintage, but it should clearly be outstanding. (05/2023)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Lafleur-Gazin is a tad closed and grumpy to begin, needing some coaxing to bring out notes of baked black plums, boysenberries, and tar, followed by hints of licorice and allspice. The medium to full-bodied palate is laden with black fruit preserves and savory accents, framed by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing earthy. This is made from 100% Merlot. (05/2023)

The 2022 Lafleur-Gazin unwinds in the glass with aromas of minty blackberries, cherries, petroleum jelly and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, supple and gourmand, its satiny attack segues into a rich but vibrant core of fleshy, perfumed fruit. Owned by the firm of J-P Mouiex since 2020, this is an estate in the ascendant.
