"...etwas eindimensionale Frucht, süße Frucht, mittlerer Körper, sehr harte, extrahierte Tannine, Balance fehlt, leider." (04/2023)

This is an exceptional vintage at La Lagune, really benefiting from the heat in terms of ripening the fruit, but retaining the reserved character that you often find here. Precision in its dark berry frame, with hints of opulence in waves of cocoa bean, cigar box and espresso, all tempered by slate-textured tannins and grip, savoury with personality, one of the best I have tasted from this estate. Caroline Frey owner, harvest September 9 to 26. A single point upgrade. (12/2024)

The 2022 La Lagune, the first vintage certified biodynamic (BIODYVIN), was bottled in May 2024. It fulfills the promise intimated from barrel with delineated, focused flavors and neatly integrated oak. Black fruit mingles with sous-bois and light pencil box aromas. The medium-bodied palate offers more sappy black fruit, a ferrous quality, fleshy texture and fine tannins. A touch of spice box on the finish is more austere than predicted. Nevertheless, this is a fine Haut-Médoc that will require three to five years in bottle.

An opulent Pomerol with a nice touch of savoriness and lots of sweet plums. Lightly saline, this has medium to full body, fine-boned tannins and a lengthy finish. A ripe vintage gives more supple texture and flavor, but there is still freshness and finesse. Drink from 2027. (01/2025)

A Haut-Médoc that should be snatched up by readers, the 2022 Château La Lagune is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated Haut-Médoc that includes a solid chunk of Merlot. Fabulous currants, leafy tobacco, cedar pencil, and spicy notes all define this ultra-classic, pure, medium to full-bodied beauty, which has ample mid-palate depth, a pure, layered mouthfeel, and ultra-fine tannins. It will benefit from 4-6 years in the cellar and have 2-3 decades of overall longevity. (02/2025)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 La Lagune is a little shy to start off, needing some coaxing to bring out evocative scents of creme de cassis, redcurrant jelly, and kirsch, followed by touches of tar and smoked meats. The medium to full-bodied palate is laden with rich, ripe, black fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and well-judged freshness, finishing long and earthy. (05/2023)

Notes of cassis, licorice, sweet berries and flowers preface the 2022 La Lagune, a medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping wine with a broad attack, velvety tannins and a sweet core of fruit. This is a real success.
