The 2022 Fonbadet is a soft, easygoing Pauillac that should drink well right out of the gate. Succulent dark plum fruit, spice, leather and a kiss of French oak are pushed forward. The 2022 is attractive but not exactly complex.

A consistent Pauillac, the 2022 Château Fonbadet has textbook notes of both red and black currants as well as freshly sharpened pencils, tobacco, and some subtle earthy nuances. It's balanced, medium to full-bodied, has ripe, supple tannins, and a great finish. You certainly wouldn't know it comes from an extremely hot, dry vintage by tasting it. There's enough structure here to warrant 4-6 years of bottle age, but it's an outstanding wine in the making. (2023)
