"Sourced from 45-year-old vines planted at over 365 metres in elevation, Cathiard Vineyard’s 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the highest point on their Napa Valley estate. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 20 months in roughly 80% new French oak, producing a wine of both power and elegance in the 2022 vintage. It showcases a deep black-fruited profile with nuances of rich forest character, redwood, and loamy earth, all leading to a full-bodied expression that balances tannic power and fruit density. The mid-palate is structured and expansive, while a saline-acid tension carries the wine to an exceptionally long finish, where pure currant, blackberry, and black cherry notes mingle with wet slate and graphite minerality, rounding out a satisfying, slightly spicy close. Just gorgeous." - Jonathan Cristaldi (02/2025)

"Intense red-purple. Fruit-forward and luxurious, skilfully crafted. Intense, ripe red and black fruits, aged leather and warm spices. The powerful, opulent tannins still need time to fully integrate, particularly at the lengthy finish. Grown on 25 hectares of the estate’s oldest, hillside vines in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. 80% new French oak for ageing. " - Suzanne Desbois (02/2025)

"Excellent. Denser, plumper, richer and more aromatically expressive than Promontory but almost equally impressive in its purity and balance. Intensely floral with those parfumier’s essences of violets and rose petals. Damson fruit confit. Black cherry. Blueberry. This is sumptuous and gracious with amazing poise and harmony and the most plunge-pool core. Fabulous with a lovely hint of graphite enrobing the fruits. So juicy despite the density." - Colin Hay (03/2025)

The Cathiard estate's flagship wine is super concentrated, superfine in texture, built for long aging but also enticing to drink soon. It is made from 100% cabernet sauvignon from the oldest vines on the property, planted in 1978. Beautiful flavors of creme de cassis, black cherries, blueberries, orange zest and bitter chocolate are layered and almost delicate. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.

Tasted as two pre-blends from different barrels that will be combined to form the final wine, set to be bottled in December 2024, the 2022 Cathiard Vineyard Proprietary Red should prove a solid effort. The first sample showed more red fruit but also some jamminess to the red raspberry notes combined with hints of dark chocolate; the second was slightly herbal and dusty, marked by black cherries. Both were medium to full-bodied, with the first being more open and velvety, and the second was more compact, closed and tannic.- Joe Czerwinski (10/2024)
