The 2022 Riesling Rauenthaler Nonnenberg, a monopole, is the most homogenous site due to its small size. Neither is it as exposed as the sites in Rüdesheim. This was harvested in the core parcels, from the middle and top reaches of the mountain, on poor schist soils. The oldest vines date to the 1950s. The nose is rather shy, yet notions of Amalfi lemon, milky, fresh hazelnut and stoniness appear. The palate almost dispenses with the lemon and goes straight to stone and soil, presenting freshness, austerity and stony depth, assisted by a slightly yeasty texture that seems to arrest little nuclei of stony flavor. Taut, bright, ripe yet slender without any opulence. This little sleeper comes with self-evident, naked stoniness without any concession to prettiness or primary fruity charm. Very honest, understated, lasting. (Bone-dry)
