2021 Syrah Santa Rita Hills

The 2021 Syrah (Sta. Rita Hills), from John Sebastiano, is a powerhouse. Black fruit, incense, tobacco, licorice and dried herbs are all dialed up to the maximum. Low yields and thick skins resulted in a pretty dense wine. I am not sure the forbidding tannins will ever soften. This is a bruiser.

The 2021 Syrah Sta. Rita Hills begins with soft scents of wild berries and graphite, taking lots of time to unfold finer nuances of wildflowers. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and bright with understated, floral fruit and a long, mineral-driven finish. 327 cases were made.
