The 2021 Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Goldlack represents the top quality of the winery’s dry Rieslings. After three very dry years, 2021 turned out to be a great wine year in the Rheingau region, with a satisfactory level of rainfall. This vintage is characterised by its complex and expressive aroma. The nose reveals aromas of Mirabelle plums, dark berries such as blackberries and black currants, complemented by hints of liquorice, herbs, and roasted aromas. On the palate, the wine impresses with its dense and smooth structure, intense minerality, salty notes, and precise spicy acidity. After hand-picking and 48 hours of maceration, the must was gently pressed and fermented in 1,200-litre oak barrels made from the estate’s own oak. The wine then aged for 24 months on the lees in the 9-meter-deep Bibliotheca Subterranea at 10.5° Celsius, before being bottled in spring 2024.
