The 2021 Clos du Clocher retains what is quite an opulent bouquet, violet petals infusing the upfront black cherry and blueberry fruit. There is fine delineation and focus to the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied, with a vein of graphite on the entry and moderate depth, showing good cohesion. An almost Left Bank finish feels just a bit drier than expected, but at least there is freshness here. It will cohere with another two or three years in bottle.

Subtle plushness with dark olives, mineral, black currants, ink and pencil lead. Juicy and medium-bodied on the palate with fine, dusty tannins. Long, fresh and very resolved. Drink or hold.

The Clos du Clocher 2021 has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It is a tad broody to start, offering glimpses at tar, sauteed herbs, and damp soil notes, before opening out to a core of juicy black plums, black raspberries, and menthol, with a touch of pencil shavings. The medium-bodied palate has a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing long and savory. (04/2024)
