The 2021 Enclos Tourmaline is a little disjointed on the nose with a strong licorice scent. It needs more cohesion and vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, quite conservative in style and attenuating severely on the finish. This is a disappointing showing for this Pomerol.

Iron, warm-stone minerals with blood oranges, plums and thyme. A fuller expression from the vintage, showing fine minerals and a tight-grained finish. Vertical and extensive, with lots of polish. Excellent concentration. Drinkable now, but much better from 2026.

One of the ripest, biggest wines in the appellation, the 100% Merlot 2021 Enclos Tourmaline has darker plum and black cherry fruits as well as ample chocolate, leafy herb, and subtle yet classic Pomerol damp earth nuances. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Pomerol with a lively, elegant mouthfeel, plenty of ripe fruit, and fine-grained tannins. It's a rock-solid 2021 that already offers pleasure yet should cruise for 10-12 years. Tasted twice with consistent notes. (04/2024)

Production of the 2021 Enclos Tourmaline is down by around two-thirds this year, but the wine shows potential, exhibiting aromas of plums, cherries, licorice and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied and fleshy palate with powdery structuring tannins and a lively spine of acidity. From vines in the Clinet sector, this is more serious than the charming, demonstrative La Patache. Tasted twice.
