The 2021 Immigrant True Vineyard is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Outpost since I started tasting these wines nearly 20 years ago. A wine of towering structure and energy, the Immigrant impresses with its balance. Mocha, plum, espresso and blackberry jam all build effortlessly. The 2021 deftly marries unctuous richness and energy.

A truly luscious, creamy wine, but with a spine of tannin that gives it muscle and length. Powerful in black fruit, graphite and iron aromas, then bitter chocolate, dried black cherries, cocoa and black olive accents. Made from roughly equal thirds of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, a mix that lends layers and fascinating complexity. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.

Smoky blue and black fruits, iron, black olive, and bouquet garni notes all emerge from the 2021 True Vineyard Immigrant, a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. Deep, inky purple, with an incredibly layered, seamless, and full-bodied profile, it shines just as much for its balance and elegance as its power and richness. This absolutely sensational wine can be drunk any time over the coming 20+ years. (02/2024)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 True Immigrant skips out of the glass with ready-to-go scents of blueberries, boysenberry preserves, and chocolate box with touches of violets, graphite, and wild sage. The full-bodied palate is juicy and plush, with soft, rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and showy. This is a blend of around a third each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, co-fermented. (08/2024)

Ripe, well-structured and authoritative, this is also rather sleek in feel, with a core of mulled black currant and blackberry fruit, melted black licorice and roasted mesquite notes coursing through, flanked with bay and cast iron accents. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

A co-fermented blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 True Vineyard Immigrant is herbal, with prominent sage and pine notes accenting black cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated and muscular but also supremely ripe, with masses of tannins and hints of licorice on the lengthy finish. I suspect this wine will still be going strong in two decades.
