The 2020 La Grave exudes considerable depth to match its somber personality. Blueberry jam, kirsch, lavender, dried herbs, cloves, licorice, gravel and leather flesh out in the glass. Ripeness feels a bit pushed in the 2020, and yet all the elements are so nicely balanced. Even so, this is a pretty potent, unctuous style.

Dark berries with fresh flowers and black earth. Intense violets, too. Full-bodied with very fine, creamy tannins that provide roundness to the palate, as well as gorgeous length. (05/2021)

I loved the 2020 Château La Grave, which has a wonderful freshness in its ripe red, blue, and black fruits as well as notes of tobacco leaf, chocolate, and spicy oak aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and ripe tannins, it's a classic Pomerol that will benefit from just short-term cellaring and keep for two decades. (03/2023)

The 2020 La Grave from Pomerol is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc and has a deep garnet-purple color. It is a little broody to begin, opening out to notes of dried Provence herbs and fertile loam, over a core of black raspberries, blackberry pie, and spiced plums. The full-bodied palate delivers an impressive quantity of black fruits, with savory accents and a slight chewiness to the texture, together with a refreshing finish. (03/2023)

Shows the plush, forward boysenberry and blackberry fruit profile of the vintage, but has ample savory and tobacco leaf notes as well. Offers just a touch of grain through the humus-tinged finish, giving this a rustic edge at the very end. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2035. 2,150 cases made, 50 cases imported.

Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2020 la Grave offers alluring scents of crushed black cherries, black raspberries and redcurrant jelly, followed by hints of dried Provence herbs, unsmoked cigars and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate bursts with refreshing red and black berry flavors, supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory.
