The 2019 Lanessan has a more understated bouquet, albeit well-defined and fresh. A subtle marine influence merges with the black fruit scents, just a touch of undergrowth surfacing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of concentration here, more depth and muscle than its peers, if slightly less precision on the finish. Still a very decent wine. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. (01/2023)

Fruity nose of ripe blackberries, currants, chocolate orange and oyster shell. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced and fresh with some spicy and salty notes to close. Drink from 2023. (02/2022)

The 2019 Lanessan has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It starts off quite closed, soon unfurling to offer glimpses at baked plums, boysenberry preserves, and kirsch, followed by hints of pencil lead and sauteed herbs. The medium-bodied palate has a firm, rugged texture and a good amount of uncomplicated black fruits, finishing savory. (05/2023)

Shows a warm earth note that drapes gently over a core of steeped plum and cassis, with singed balsam wood and cedar accents on the finish. An understated style that should have a little staying power. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2029. 20,000 cases made, 2,500 cases imported.

The 2019 Lanessan continues to perform very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet berries, licorice and fresh tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and a vibrant core of fruit, it's a fine effort from a property with immense potential.
