The 2019 Bourgneuf is another gorgeous wine from the Vayron family. Classy and polished from the very first taste, Bourgneuf has all the creaminess and texture it did en primeur, but with a bit more energy and tension backing it all up. In recent years, Bourgneuf seems to have a touch more volume, but it remains a wonderfully understated, classy Pomerol. Hints of red/purplish fruit, rose petal, new leather and cinnamon linger.

Lots of black raspberry, mulberry, and black cherry fruits as well as cedar and floral notes emerge from the 2019 Château Bourgneuf, a medium to full-bodied, wonderfully pure, balanced Pomerol. I love its tannins, and it shows the pure, balanced style of 2019 in Pomerol perfectly. It will benefit from just 2-3 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly for 15-20 years. It's another outstanding wine from this château. (2022)

The 2019 Bourgneuf has a deep garnet-purple color, opening with notes of sautéed herbs, woodsmoke and damp earth over a core of baked plums, warm blackberries and raspberry leaves plus a waft of tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid structure of firm, chewy tannins and bold freshness supporting the muscular black and blue fruits, finishing with an herbal lift.
