2019 Chardonnay "Réserve"

Still very youthful and slightly flinty, the hazelnut notes of maturity only just beginning to develop. Excellent integration of smoky oak and cool pear fruit on the compact and focused medium- to full-bodied palate. Very long, detailed chalky finish. From the Grosser Garten GG site. Fermented and matured in 100% new oak barriques. Drink now.

The 2019 Chardonnay Réserve comes from the white soils in the Im Grossen Garten grand cru and is based on the fruits from Burgundy clones such as 548, 95 and 76 that were planted 30 years ago. Fermented quite dusty after the maceration in 100% new barriques for 12 months and to be released in September next year, the 2019 opens with a noble reduction to the deep and intense, complex and very elegant bouquet that indicates greatness. Rich and elegant on the palate, with sustainable salinity, fine tannins and great complexity, this is a supple, dense and persistently saline Chardonnay with great expression and substance. Tasted at the domaine in June this year.
