The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artalade Montagna Vineyard is a huge wine packed with inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, sweet French oak, espresso, cloves, incense and crushed rocks. This huge, brooding Cabernet packs a serious punch. I would give it a few years to soften a bit, but expect it will always be a powerhouse.

This shows delicious blue fruit and just-picked violets, nut shells and pine wood with a touch of vanilla. Graphite, too. Full-bodied, powerful and intense with chewy tannins, yet there’s a soft feeling on the palate. Long and dry finish with a touch of crushed stone. This is too much for us this year. Try from 2023. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artalade Montanga Vineyard comes from a site on Pritchard Hill and is one of the standouts in the lineup in 2019. Saturated purple-hued, with tons of red, blue, and black fruits, it slowly offers up more minerality, gravelly earth, lead pencil, and violet notes with time in the glass. A big, concentrated, opulent beauty, it stays balanced and nicely focused on the palate, yet it’s a sexy wine with the dial turned up to 11. All Cabernet aged 18 months in 80% new barrels, it has enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring and will have 20 years of longevity. (05/2022)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the single-varietal 2019 Artalade Montagna Cabernet Sauvignon opens with evocative scents of creme de cassis, fresh blackberries, and black raspberries leading to wafts of wild sage and lavender. The full-bodied palate is bursting with black fruit preserves flavors, supported by lightly chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with a savory lift. (10/2023)

Densely packed, with baker's chocolate and tobacco wrapped around a core of steeped plum, black currant reduction and blackberry paste. The grippy, warm earth–filled finish pulls the fruit along with it, showing nice cut and drive. Some patience is needed. Best from 2024 through 2038. 262 cases made.- J.M.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Artalade Vineyard comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant scents of crème de cassis, chocolate box and licorice, with underlying plum preserves and cedar chest notes. The full-bodied palate is generously laden with black fruit preserves flavors, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and a lively line, going long and earthy on the finish.
