Super fresh, flinty and fine aromas of lemon and grapefruit on offer, as well as wildflowers and stones. The palate has a smoothly resolved texture with supple, lemon and yellow-peach flavors. Long and even-handed finish. Great depth here. Drink or hold. (12/2019)

The 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Vieilles Vignes Riesling GG (or Dry instead of GG in certain export markets) opens with deep, discreet, restrained and spicy rather than tropical fruit on the nose that is rather coolish and leafy/herbal given the warm and dry vintage and, in any case, seriously complex, with delicate slate notes. Full-bodied, round and finely juicy on the palate, this is an elegant, refined and complex, substantial and intense, really traditional Mosel Riesling that doesn't show much of what we have learned about the taste of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr in the last 20+ years but celebrates a long, intense and sustainable finish that shows the substance of this Sonnenuhr in a pretty subversive way. This is a Riesling for which kind critics used only a few words to describe instead of a short story. In this case, the tasting note à la Broadbent could have been like that: discreet yet substantial, very elegant, serious, even rich finish. Bottled after 24 months on the full lees with 13% stated alcohol. Total Production: 1,200 bottles. Natural cork. Tasted in October 2024. - Stephan Reinhardt (10/2024)
