2017 "Le Droitier" Cabernet Sauvignon | MG

The 2017 Le Droitier, Coup de Foudre's Merlot-based red, is a powerful, heady wine. Black cherry, tobacco, espresso, smoke, licorice, graphite and menthol build as this Right Bank-inspired wine starts to open up. The 2017 needs time in bottle, but it is clearly one of the successes of the vintage.

Blueberries and blackberries with chocolate and crushed stones. Full-bodied, chewy and flavorful. Lots of toast and walnut undertones. Herbs, too. Big wine for the vintage. 80% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 10% petit verdot. Drink now. (02/2020)

Composed of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Merlot Coup De Foudre Le Droitier displays a deep garnet-purple color. It is a little youthfully reticent to begin, giving way to notes of baked plums, Black Forest cake, blackberry tart and dried mulberries with touches of garrigue, tilled earth, underbrush and raisin cake plus a hint of sautéed herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is taut and muscular with a solid backbone of chewy tannins, finishing long and savory. 100 cases were made.
