The 2017 Clos La Madeleine is bold and racy in the glass. Super-ripe red cherry and plum fruit give the 2017 a real sense of lusciousness. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers, herbs and small red berries develop later, adding lovely shades of intrigue. Clos La Madeleine is an especially ripe Saint-Émilion, just as it was en primeur, but it is also succulent, silky and incredibly delicious for what it is: a juicy Saint-Émilion to enjoy over the next decade or so with no pretense.

Wonderfully perfumed and fresh on the nose with flowers and plums, as well as sandalwood undertones. Medium to full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, lingering finish. It shows fine polish and integration now. Give it three or so years to come completely together. Try after 2023. (12/2019)

Medium ruby-hued, with plenty of ripe black cherries, damp earth, and leafy herbs notes as well as a hint of chocolate, the 2017 Clos La Madeleine shows the more fresh, focused, classic style of the vintage nicely. A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it's medium-bodied, has a silky texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years. (02/2020)

A bright, floral style, with high-pitched red currant, pomegranate and damson plum notes, backed by racy acidity and well-buried chalky minerality. A flash of savory adds detail. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2021 through 2029. 380 cases made.

Purchased by Ets Jean-Pierre Moueix last summer, this is the first vintage of the wine made by the company. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Clos la Madeleine opens with red and black currants on the nose plus touches of garrigue, pencil lead, cloves and chocolate. The mouth is medium-bodied, refreshing and understated with restrained earthy layers and a chewy finish.
