Der trocken, fruchtige rubinrote Chianti Classico Gran Selezione „Il Poggio“ überzeugt mit holzigen Aromen, die sich im Zusammenspiel von dunklen Beeren und einem Hauch Espresso eine sehr gute Figur abgeben. Die seidige Tanninstruktur mit erdigen Aromen und einem Hauch Anis im Abgang, machen den Wein spannend und gleichzeitig vollkommen. Dieser Wein hat nicht nur geschmacklich ordentlich etwas vorzuweisen, sondern auch historisch kommt ihm eine besondere Bedeutung zu Teil. Der Chianti stammt von dem Weinberg Il Poggio (5,5 Ha, 310 m ü. NN) und ist nach 20-monatiger Lagerung im Eichenfass bereit für den Verkauf. Heute repräsentiert er den ganzen Stolz des Unternehmens und wird überall auf der Welt gelobt und geschätzt.

The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Il Poggio is just starting to enter an early plateau of maturity. Spice, worn-in leather, menthol, tobacco and scorched earth lend nuance to an Il Poggio that balances finesse and power. This is a terrific showing. I would give the tannins a few years to soften. There is certainly plenty to look forward to.

Lots of ripe fruit with plum, berry, chocolate and walnut character. Such pretty, creamy tannins. It’s full-bodied and intense with gorgeous fruit and a flavorful finish. Very serious and finely crafted. Che bello! Drink after 2022. (10/2020)

Balsamic aromas and flavors of juniper, rosemary, sage and loamy earth give way to plum, cherry and iron notes in this dry, powerful red. Burly tannins complete the package. The lasting impression is of ripe fruit, showing some heat in the balance. This screams terroir and needs time to find equilibrium. Best from 2023 through 2045. 833 cases made, 200 cases imported.

This is an elegant and graceful wine. The Castello di Monsanto 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Il Poggio is a dark and sultry expression that maintains the polished and sophisticated house style for which this estate is known. This top shelf Sangiovese shows a slightly sweet side with dried raspberry and blueberry, but it also delivers a lot of freshness with balsam herb, blue flower, rosemary and cypress tree.
