A heady mixture of diverse dried fruits and sweetly-perfumed flowers rises from the glass of Prum’s 2006 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Long Gold Capsule auction lot (which is the sole Graacher long gold capsule Riesling this year, and carries the A.P.#22). Honey and white raisin; coconut and vanilla; musk and brown spices, all contribute to the richness on display. An aura of smokiness as well as floral perfume hangs over the entire proceedings, but there is no corresponding pungency or roughness on the palate. This is a seamless (and sensationally long) representation of purely ennobled fruit. It will go on for half I century.
