Pale gold. Tangerine and white peach on the nose, with notes of chalk and cinnamon lending vivacity. Firm and tangy on entry, then gains flesh and sweetness in the middle palate and offers deeper pear and melon qualities. Nicely marries richness and energy, and finishes with good clarity and resonating notes of soft citrus and orchard fruits. I get more energy here than I've seen in many recent bottlings from this house.

There’s a serious structure behind the considerable richness of this bold champagne. A wide range of dried-fruit aromas, but also some mint and sage freshness. Complex texture at the long, chalky finish. 12% of the cuvée is fermented in barrel. 60% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 10% pinot meunier, all from Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. Drink or hold. The 2002 Vintage reveals ripe apricots and pears interwoven with floral, buttery aromatics. Most of the wine’s appeal is upfront, as its persistence drops off quite a bit on the mid-palate. This is Lot 5102746, disgorged between February and March, 2006. In 2002, the blend is 60% Pinot Noir, 7% Pinot Meunier and 33% Chardonnay with 9 grams of dosage. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012.
